How Obesity is Linked to Cancer

Obesity is one of the diseases which happen when excess fat accumulates in the body. It is one of the most common diseases among the youth today. Particularly happening due to bad eating habits, obesity definitely leaves bad effects on your health.

There are no particular reasons why Obesity happens to an individual but common reasons include family history, environmental issues, eating habits etc. Some of the factors mentioned are not in human control but can be prevented by living a healthy lifestyle.

One of the major risks you carry if you are obese is Cancer. There are around 10 types of cancer that are directly linked to obesity. Few of them include Pancreas, Breast, Kidney, Thyroid, Gallbladder, Colon and rectum, liver etc.

The human body contains fat cells which are active and produce proteins and hormones being released into the bloodstream and carried around the body. Since this spread occurs through a circulation, many parts of the body can be affected by the chemical messengers and therefore, increases the risk of different kind of cancers. Also, when you are too obese, the excess amount of fat changes the sex hormones in the body and can increase the cancer risk.

Staying healthy and away from obesity is a big challenge for those who are obese or overweight. But when you do so, you lower the risks of other harmful diseases as well.

Factors that cause Obesity includes lack of physical activity, excess calorie intake etc. To control the obesity factors, you should get Body mass index checked after every few months. BMI can be calculated with below formulae

Weight in Kg’s / (Height in meters)2

  • If you fall under 18 to 22.9, you are normal.
  • If your BMI falls in the range 23 to 24.9, you are overweight.
  • If your BMI is greater than 25, you are obese and should take measure to tackle this health issue.

While it is important for youth to control the factors that cause obesity, parents should make sure that obesity stays away from their children as well. Children learn the habits from the parents. You can change the way your children their life.
